No I Haven’t Been Running

Well, I haven’t been running unless you count the occasional 5-7 minutes warm up jog at Workout in the Park (Jenna from Effectual Fitness who runs Workout in the Park is amazing and the main motivation behind my summer workouts so far!) And I’m scheduled to do Mud Hero on Saturday. I’m SOOOO not ready. Oh well, it looks like a lot of fun regardless and as long as my babysitting woes magically sort themselves out I’m going to go to the race despite the lack of preparation. Unless my stupid car dies on me…but that’s another story and I am taking it to be looked at tomorrow so I’ll just cross my fingers and toes and anything else I can cross that somehow it all works out.

Not running means more than a lack of preparation for my race. It also means a cranky and sluggish mom. We were reasonably active on vacation (just returned from Idaho-and I was so disappointed I did not see any potatoes!) We did some hiking, some walking, some theme park strolling and even ziplining!

But other than vacation and my twice a week (when my car is not in the shop and I’m not on vacation) fitness in the park class – no running. Not enough activity. Sucky weather. Why yes, I am very cranky about it all 😉 My achilles really needs to get better so I can run more. I’m thinking in September when the boys start school I am going to carve out some time to hit the pool. I can focus on improving my freestyle stroke instead of getting frustrated with my foot. I tried resting it for quite some time now – my DH says I have NOT been resting it, but what can I say, I am trying. Kind of. I’m adding some heel drop exercises, but I have to accept my fall races are out and I need to slowly improve to avoid more serious injury.

So, no, I’m not running. And my summer is not better without the running, but I’m trying to make the most of it. Not much left, after all! 27 days until kindergarten starts. Not that I’m counting or anything. Because who would celebrate their last baby going to school for full days half of each week? Oh yeah – Me, Me, Me!!
