Not Running, Not Writing
I had such high hopes when I started this blog and gave up my old mama blog. I had been running pretty consistently, had a year of firsts for races (my first 5k, first triathlon, first 10k). I was feeling better physically and mentally than I had in a really, really long time. Then it was fall – I did my 10k, finished right where I wanted and two days later got sick. Missed my half-marathon, stopped running, stopped biking, stopped writing on my blog, stopped EVERYTHING it seems like. I barely parented for a few weeks there for that matter – I was just so tired all the time, and the bad physical stuff left me feeling depressed and overwhelmed. September wasn’t the only month that sucked this fall – October was super sucky too.
It’s more than half-way through November and I still haven’t gotten back to normal. Not even close really – although this week I actually did get in two “workouts”. I went for a 30 minute walk on my treadmill and a 7k bike ride on the trainer. Not exactly high intensity either one, but better than sitting in front of my tv stuffing my face, something I’ve done far too often. I drew up a training plan for the week ahead and I think I might finally be able to commit to working out regularly again, although intensity is going to be a goal for another week!
I’m also going for some asthma testing this week – a lung function test to be specific. I have been using an inhaler for a few days and it seems to be helping. I’m sleeping at least, which really has been an issue. Nothing quite as fun as waking up at 4 am coughing again to ruin your nights.
Well let’s hope that between medication, sleep and getting back on the horse, I’m going to be more on track from here on out. I want to finish 2011 off on a high note. Start 2012 off that way too (actually, I’m hoping to register for a New Year’s Day 5k to meet that goal!)
