The Tread-Mom Experiment

I did a little experiment this weekend – I created a version of a treadmill desk for myself! I read this and watched the embedded video and was motivated to try it. In all fairness I’d read about treadmill desks before, but had pretty much just skimmed over the concept. This time though I was totally intrigued – maybe because I actually own a treadmill now and didn’t before!
Being a wahm virtual legal assistant, I spend a fair amount of time on my laptop. And I’m not a healthy weight unfortunately, although my triathlon training is definitely helping me! So Sunday afternoon I found a piece of old drywall to use as part of a temporary setup and found it actually is not that hard to type and walk at a slow speed. Here’s what it looks like for now:
Today is officially day one of what I think will be an all year experiment – working (mostly) from my treadmill. Already today I’ve logged over an hour and 1.1 miles (while transcribing a bunch of correspondence for a client). I’m walking at 1 mile per hour for now, and will probably increase in small increments a bit until I hit my most comfortable pace. I’m hoping to post fairly regularly on my blog my daily mileages and maybe weekly weigh ins. Of course keep in mind this is not all that I’m doing to work on achieving a healthy weight. I’m starting to really work on adjusting my diet to include more fruits, vegetables, fiber and fewer calories! I am working out 4-6 times per week (mostly biking and running – a bit of swimming) and will be upping that as I get closer to my first triathlon races.
Should be an interesting journey!
