Tired to Triathlon

This poor blog has been so neglected. Between my increasingly busy legal va practice and the boys being back in school and the university classes I’m taking, I’ve felt sooooo busy! But apparently not too busy because I’m adding a new level of fun to my life.
I’ve been 30 lbs overweight for a long, long time. I’m so sick of it, but struggle with motivation to actually change my eating habits. And exercise is so not my thing. But I was reading something (cannot remember where!!) and suddenly decided that I needed a big goal to push me into better habits. So I’m going to try prepare for a triathlon (date to be determined when 2011 schedule is available).
Already this week I’ve made some great strides (pun intended!), going for 3 bike rides, two “runs” and one swim. My goal is a sprint distance tri, approximately 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run. I can go 500m swim already, and need to work on my endurance and form. I have biked maybe 8km but know I can go farther, and will be working hard on that. My biggest challenge will be the run. I breathe hard almost immediately. I hope I can pull it together with several months of work! Going to need a treadmill though, getting way cold already in lovely Alberta!
