Work at Home Weekend Fail
How is it that I had a couple of good days over the long weekend, but also a couple of really NOT good days, so I just feel like it was a work at home fail altogether?
On Thursday I got an email about taking on a transcription project. I agreed and said I’d have it for Monday by noon. I thought it was about 2 hours of audio, but apparently I don’t look closely enough sometimes. 111 minutes is not 1 hour and 11 minutes – it’s almost 2 hours. Duh. Plus there was another file that was 1 audio hour for a grand total of 3 hours, not 2. Maybe that doesn’t sound bad to you, but normal transcription takes 2-3 times the audio file and interview transcription is more like 4 hours for every hour of audio transcription (it requires time-stamping and the speech pace is generally faster). So the project I *saved* until Sunday morning was in fact a 12 hour-ish job. I was home alone with the 3 kids for this. Needless to say I let them pretty much run wild and worked frantically all day. And all morning Monday (12 work hours just does not fit into one day of my life). They didn’t even get dressed until about 2 on Monday afternoon. I really don’t like doing that, working at home is supposed to help me be more available to my boys, and usually that’s the case, but every now and then I take on a project and don’t manage my time quite well enough. Sigh.
We did go out on Saturday at least. We went to the Easter Eggstravaganza at Fort Edmonton Park. It wasn’t all that warm but they had a great time looking for plastic eggs and making bunny ears. They even found a golden egg which was probably the highlight of the day. My highlight was when it was over and I was toasty warm in my car again. The post pic is them just before we left the Park, walking the railway tracks. Cute!
